China-pakistan Joint Statement

I. At the invitation of the Chinese leader, Prime Minister Imran Khan of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan visited Beijing from 3 to 6 February 2022 and attended the opening ceremony of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games.During the visit, President Xi Jinping met with Prime Minister Imran Khan, and Premier Li Keqiang met with Him.2. On behalf of Pakistan, Prime Minister Imran Khan once again invited President Xi Jinping to pay a state visit to Pakistan, saying that the Pakistani people look forward to President Xi’s early visit to Pakistan.The two sides reaffirmed their willingness to proceed at a mutually convenient time.7. Leaders of the two countries agreed to give full play to the functions of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor Joint Cooperation Committee to strengthen cooperation in economy and trade, infrastructure, industrial development, agricultural modernization, science and technology, as well as economic, social and livelihood areas.The two sides noted close cooperation in the areas of health, environmental protection and information technology and agreed to build china-Pakistan health corridor, industrial corridor, trade corridor, green corridor and digital corridor.12. Both sides stress the role of Gwadar Port as a pillar of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and an important node in regional connectivity. They will accelerate the construction and operation of Gwadar Port and develop the Gwadar low-carbon recycling Zone in accordance with the “1+4” layout.We will build high-quality livelihood projects to promote economic and social development and improve people’s livelihood in Gwadar.13. Both sides expressed their firm determination to protect cPEC from all threats and negative publicity.The Pakistani side reiterated its commitment to ensure the safety of all Chinese personnel, projects and institutions in Pakistan. China appreciates Pakistan’s measures.14. Both sides noted that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is a mutually beneficial and win-win cooperation project that plays a key role in promoting prosperity and connectivity in the region.As an open and inclusive initiative, third parties are welcome to benefit from investment opportunities in CPEC industrial parks.15. The two sides reviewed with satisfaction the mutual support and cooperation between China and Pakistan since the outbreak of COVID-19.Prime Minister Imran Khan thanked Chinese leaders for providing COVID-19 vaccines to Pakistan, providing major support for the country’s nationwide mass vaccination campaign.The leaders agreed that the mutual support, cooperation and solidarity between the two countries during the epidemic reflects the time-honored tradition of China-Pakistan friendship, and the two sides will continue to support each other until the epidemic is defeated.16. The two sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen their existing cooperation in emergency management systems, public health infrastructure and joint ventures in Pakistan’s pharmaceutical industry to address similar challenges in the future.17. The two sides welcomed the establishment of the Pakistan Pavilion on the Chinese e-commerce platform and agreed to further strengthen cooperation on e-commerce, establish online payment systems and cooperate on logistics, warehousing and customs facilitation.19. Both sides expressed satisfaction with the successful convening of the 15th Meeting of china-Pakistan Joint Commission on Economy, Trade, Science and Technology in December 2021.The two sides agreed to make good use of this important mechanism to further strengthen bilateral all-round economic cooperation.20. Pakistan believes that China’s achievements in lifting 770 million people out of absolute poverty are incomparable and wishes the Chinese government and people greater achievements in realizing the goals of socialist modernization and national rejuvenation.China appreciates Pakistan’s Isas poverty alleviation project and reiterates its support for Pakistan’s infrastructure construction in agriculture, education, health, safe drinking water and vocational training.21. Both sides expressed satisfaction with the strong cooperation between China and Pakistan in the field of education and committed to further strengthening cooperation between educational institutions of the two countries.Pakistan stressed that China has become a popular destination for study.On the premise of epidemic prevention and safety, The Chinese side will prudently address the needs of Pakistani students to return to China and resume classes.22. The two sides reaffirm the importance of people-to-people, tourism and cultural exchanges to strengthen bilateral relations.Building on the Memorandum of Understanding on Promoting Tourism Exchange and Cooperation between the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China and the Inter-provincial Coordination Department of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan signed in November last year, the two sides agreed to celebrate the year of China-Pakistan Tourism Exchange in 2023 and strengthen links between tourism promotion agencies and private enterprises of the two countries.23. Both sides agreed to do their best to support China and Pakistan in strengthening civilisational exchanges and further expanding cooperation in the protection and exhibition of cultural relics.The two leaders welcomed the holding of gandhara Art exhibition in Beijing’s Palace Museum in 2022.24. The two sides agreed to maintain the momentum of defense cooperation between the two militaries at all levels, stressing that enhanced defense and security cooperation between China and Pakistan is an important factor for maintaining peace and stability in the region.25. China recognizes Pakistan’s sacrifices and efforts in the fight against terrorism.The two sides reaffirmed their commitment to combating terrorism in all its forms.26. Both sides reaffirmed that a peaceful and prosperous South Asia is in the common interests of all parties.The two sides stressed the importance of resolving all outstanding disputes through dialogue to promote regional cooperation as well as lasting peace, stability and common prosperity.27. The Pakistani side briefed the Chinese side on the latest developments of the situation in Jammu and Kashmir, including Pakistan’s concerns, positions and pressing issues.China reiterates that the Kashmir issue is a dispute left over from history and should be properly resolved through peaceful means in accordance with the UN Charter, relevant Security Council resolutions and bilateral agreements.China opposes any unilateral action that may complicate the situation.28. On Afghanistan, the two sides agreed that a peaceful, stable, united and secure Afghanistan is crucial to regional prosperity and progress.The two sides expressed satisfaction with the outcomes of the two foreign Ministers’ meetings of Afghanistan’s neighboring countries and looked forward to China hosting the next meeting.China and Pakistan are ready to discuss with Afghanistan the holding of a trilateral foreign ministers’ dialogue.29. The two sides stressed the need to accelerate the delivery of humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan and its people to avert the imminent crisis and called on the international community to continue to provide additional assistance and support to Afghanistan, including the unfreezing of Afghan financial assets.The two sides are ready to discuss with Afghanistan the extension of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor to Afghanistan.China appreciates Pakistan’s hosting of the SPECIAL OIC Foreign Ministers’ Meeting on Afghanistan on December 19, 2021.The two sides agreed to continue their close cooperation on Afghanistan in the future.The two sides expressed satisfaction with their close cooperation on multilateral fora and resolved to further deepen strategic communication, coordination and consultation.The two sides reaffirmed their commitment to the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and their support for win-win cooperation under multilateralism.31. Prime Minister Imran Khan welcomed and reiterated his support for president Xi Jinping’s global development initiative aimed at promoting international cooperation and accelerating the implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.The two sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening their partnership for development under the Global Development Initiative.32.
